“A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is, thereby, a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety.” –Ansel Adams (“A Personal Credo”)
- Photographer I’m Admiring: The iconic Ansel Adams, not only for his gorgeous black and white landscapes of Yosemite and the American West, but for his work as an environmentalist. He was born February 20, 1902. Learn more about him through the PBS American Experience documentary about his life. You can find it on YouTube.
- Siesta Doors is now on Instagram! I’ll continue to share my nature photography and my favorite Siesta Doors on @saeahlee but for a daily dose of Valencia’s best museum, give me a follow @siestadoors
- Book I’m looking forward to reading: Insomniac City: New York, Oliver, and Me by photographer Bill Hayes. The book provides glimpses of his relationship with Oliver Sacks, who died of cancer in 2015 and is paired with Bill Hayes’ distinctive street photography.
- Photos of the Great Barrier Reef show signs of more coral bleaching. As a diver and lover of the ocean, it disheartens me to see our environment worsen due to human causes. Do your part. Take care of this beautiful world we live in.
- I can’t keep up with all of these awareness days, but apparently it was World Whale Day a couple of days ago. 5 things you don’t know about whales from the Ocean Conservancy.
- Charles Daly wrote a short piece about my Siesta Doors project on Medium: “Being on the lookout for doors allows me to see more and notice more in general. It keeps me mindful and aware when I walk around the city. This project is all about conscious observation as opposed to shuffling from place to place with your head down.”
- Throwback Photo of the Week: Willet in Amelia Island, FL. Willets will pretend to be disabled by a broken wing in order to draw attention to themselves and lure predators away from their eggs or chicks.
- My favorite Siesta Doors photo this week. Read more about my Siesta Doors project here.
- Have you visited my Printshop? I’ll donate 20% of all profits to the National Audubon Society, the Ocean Conservancy, or the Sierra Club.
