“Life isn’t a support-system for art. It’s the other way around.” –Stephen King
- Photographer I’m Admiring: Joel Sartore, a National Geographic photographer for his Photo Ark series. In the Photo Ark, Joel is committed to documenting every species in captivity in order to raise awareness about conservation. A new book on the project will be released in a couple of days.
- My favorite podcast this week: To continue the theme of Joel Sartore, I enjoyed Terry Gross’ interview with him on Fresh Air.
- Siesta Doors is on Instagram! I’ll continue to share my nature photography and my favorite Siesta Doors on @saeahlee but for a daily dose of Valencia’s best museum, give me a follow @siestadoors.
- Ah, the power of imagination. I love Legos and Japanese food, but I would never have thought to combine them.
- What I’m Watching: This TEDTalk by Rachel Hatley on The Litter Letter Project. The Litter Letter Project creates 3D Letter Art created by litter to raise awareness.
- I was sad to hear that Bob Mankoff is stepping down as the cartoon editor of The New Yorker. But he’ll still be contributing to the magazine and plans to edit a new anthology of cartoons, scheduled for release in 2018. And don’t miss his memoir, How About Never–Is Never Good for You?: My Life in Cartoons.
- My favorite Siesta Doors photo this week. Read more about my Siesta Doors project here. I’m in Singapore and have slowed down on this project for the moment. But don’t worry, I’ll still be sharing a few new ones every week.
- Have you visited my Printshop? I’ll donate 20% of all profits to the National Audubon Society, the Ocean Conservancy, or the Sierra Club.
